This is a collection of traditional Appalachian fiddle tunes and fiddle-banjo duets alongside a handful of tracks that experiment with layering of old time fiddle, banjo and lush violin melodies.

I worked on these tunes in the first months of marriage, while living on a wild acre of land just East of Durham. It was heavily fueled by the food & flowers from my husband's garden, the ringing of trains linking down the block, the songs of frogs in the trees and hum of honeybees in the wall. The duets and arrangements were composed through heavy use of slow tempos, flexible chord analysis, improvisation and a Boss RC-300 Loop Station.

I'm deeply grateful to those who have taught me this instrument, and the pieces and tunes throughout the years that laid the path to today. Lesson & workshop teachers have included Raquel González Paraíso, Rictor Noren, Lindsey Liden, Adam Hurt, Jane Rothfield, Erynn Marshall, Tatiana Hargreaves, Joseph Decosimo and Dave Bing.

Leigh McCracken plays old time fiddle infused with the straight-forward, muscular aesthetic of the upper Midwest, an adolescence of classical violin and Bach partita double-stops, her early 20s in Southern Appalachia and varied recent influences of the North Carolina Piedmont.
